megaWare™ Infrastructure
/ Platform Components
Several components are necessary
to make up a complete megaWare™
Application Suite installation.
First, there must be an available
Windows Server to run the application.
Included on this server will
be the Microsoft SQL Databases,
WaveLink Studio Com (communications
server), Microsoft.NET Framework
2.0 and the BarTender (or equivalent)
license server. It is important
to note that while this server
can be used for dual purposes
(other applications), it will
affect performance. If your
transaction needs and/or database
size are going to be heavy,
you should consider a standalone
server for megaWare™ products.
As for the workstation, just
a Windows XP / Vista workstation
will be sufficient. For optimal
performance it is recommended
to have 250-500 MB of RAM and
1.00 GHz of processing speed.
Being a Motorola Certified Partner
we will encourage you to purchase
Motorola equipment for your
wireless network and Mobile
computing, but we will work
with existing hardware for both.
We do, however, work with existing
hardware and have a listing
of supported mobile computers
on our support page. As for
the wireless network itself,
it is not necessary to use Motorola
/ Symbol equipment but the wireless
network must at least support
802.11b protocol. Some mobile
computers support 802.11g, in
which you could use 802.11g
on your network.
We work with all kinds of thermal
transfer, direct thermal and
laser printer solutions. Our
vendor of choice is Zebra Technologies.
megaWare™ Software Components
megaWare™ Applications run
on both the client and the server,
along with megaServer™ which
runs on the server. At the workstation
level the users logon through
the megaWare™ application they
are using, but the data and
Queue system resides on the
server with megaServer™. megaServer™
is responsible for managing
licenses, connections, monitoring
the server as well as setting
up and monitoring the system
Poll Queue, Print Queue and
Run Queue.
WaveLink Studio Com is the communications
server from the hand-held to
the server and back to the hand-held.
On the wireless network WaveLink
must be reachable by the Mobile
Computers and not blocked by
a Firewall. If you have a multi-site
setup, the wireless network
must be connected via VPN.
BarTender (or another supported
barcode printing solution) is
used to create labels and import
them into megaTrak™. BarTender
is a powerful label design and
print engine and allows supreme
flexibility for making changes
/ additions as well as printer
support.
We use Crystal Reports as our
reporting engine for creating
all megaWare™ Application Suite
reports. If you desire to customize
and/or create new reports in
the system, then you can purchase
Crystal Reports from Business
Objects. It is not required
to run the existing reports
in megaWare products.
If you are not a stand-alone
system and are connecting to
an existing ERP / Accounting
system, please check our
ERP Connections
page to see if connection objects
are required.
